…the magic of pop-up and the playful transformation of three dimensional forms

My work encapsulates interaction, playfulness, and the unexpected through theatrical objects that are an experience in themselves. I make objects that are precious and beautiful but also demand participation to build a wearer-object relationship. I am intrigued by creation and the beginning of life; plant shoots breaking through concrete, and creating a pocket of life from nothing. I am also inspired by the magic of pop-up and the playful transformation of three dimensional forms growing from a flat plane before disappearing again.

Currently I am creating pieces for the body that capture this elegant movement, coming to life on the body as three dimensional forms and then collapsing off the body to a flat plane. The event of wearing activates this movement, so that it is a natural response to attaching the piece to the body and not the wearer’s conscious decision. The outcome constructs and collapses, opens and closes, capturing the surprising experience of opening a pop-up book and the beauty of creation.
