Carol Zilla is a London-based designer-maker of finely handcrafted jewellery. She is inspired by the flowing lines and curves of animal and bird silhouettes, initially creating a number of strong shapes and silhouettes to create a theme or story which then becomes the basis of her jewellery designs. She works predominantly in silver and other precious and non-precious metals and also uses gemstones and some wood/mixed media.
Her new collection Urban Wild is ethically produced using recycled silver and is inspired by the seeming paradox of the rich and varied wildlife of many areas of London. Her collections Dovetail and Silverfish focus on simple, archetypal shapes with a nostalgic quality – pressed flowers, doves, fish, hearts and home – inspired by country and coastal childhood holidays spent in England and Scotland.
Carol Zilla has a workshop in East London and makes a limited number of each of her designs which are sold as exclusive pieces.
