…dazzling light and colours of the Mediterranean.
Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2005, Louise has continued to explore how rare, hand-printed papers can be incorporated into jewellery. This has resulted in a collection of wearable pieces containing papers that have been sourced from around the world.
The rich colours and surface patterns of the paper become jewel like when encased in a protective layer of resin that sits in settings of precious metal. The dazzling light and colours of the Mediterranean, as well as Japanese origami and Mexican paper cutting have influenced this group.
Louise is often drawn to non-precious materials, specifically plastic and paper for their sheer variation and the fact that they can be manipulated in ways that suit her method of working. It is the colours obtainable from these materials, which are of such importance and when putting colour ways together, she primarily use ‘ready-made’ or inherent colour. The shades to be found in contemporary interiors are also of great influence to her.
Louise exhibit and sells her work at galleries and shops across the country and has regularly participated in shows such as Collect and Origin.
